Real 3 v Panthers 2
“Burch double takes Real back to top of the table”
In a pulsating game on a bog of a pitch at the Manor Real Whittlesey came back from 2-1 down two snatch victory with 2 goals in the last minute.
Panthers had the better of the first 20 minutes and missed 2 half chances before Mickey Burch’s strike took a deflection to put Real 1-0 up after 25 minutes, he had been denied an earlier goal after forcing the ball home from a corner but the referee disallowed it for some offence that was not easy to spot! For the remainder of the first half Real remained in control and led at half-time.
Second half started much as the first with first Panthers and then Real being in the ascendency. But 20 minutes into the second half, following a back pass which bobbled just as Andy Fowler in goal was about to clear Panthers were level as their striker rolled the ball into an empty net.
It was now end to end stuff with both goals leading a charmed life until 15 minutes from time another lapse in the home defense gave Panthers another chance which they took 1-2.
Whittlesey now threw everything at Panthers but this inevitably left them exposed at the back, as the game went into the second minute of injury time Liam Gallagher (only recently on as sub) drove home from the edge of the area to make it 2-2.
Incredibly there was more drama to come with only seconds remaining Mark Wyer clipped the ball into Matt Heron on the edge of the area with his back to goal he chested it down to Mickey Burch who drove the ball into the bottom left corner from just outside the area. Cue the celebrations as Real went back to the top of the league – it’s Netherton next week so another big game.
Well done lads incredible fighting spirit ![]()

You may have noticed this month that the guestbook has attracted a large amount of advertising for Russian wives and viagra... I can only assume that Stevie Shaw has been visiting some dodgy sites again and has somehow attracted them to this site.
Real Whittlesey does not endorse the use of Russian wives...
I will keep an eye on it and see if I can block them... in the meantime please accept my appologies...

BRING ON THE FINAL
Even better tho, 11th april is my weekend off work whoop whoop

I would just like to add that I am very very proud of the whole squad for their attitude, effort, and commitment and that extends to all the lads including those he didn't come on or make the squad.
We have got a fantastic team spirit and a never say die attitude which we have proven time and again this season.
When we are on our game we are more than a match for any team at this level.
Match Ratings are as follows:
Neil Fitzjohn - 9 - Stepped into the number 1 jersey at short notice, looked comfortable and his penalty antics wer spot on!!
Andy Littledyke - 10 - his best performance of the season, non stop running up and down the wing, excellent on the ball strong in the tackle
Dean Johnson - 10 MOM - my man of the match - it was touch and go whether he was well enough to play prior to kick off so to get 120 mins out of him and at the level he played out was outstanding, Improving loads each game!! Well done Dean
Chris Brigham - 9 - excellent reading of the game and very comfortable on the ball, takes the pressure off the defence with his calmness
Shaun Harley - 9 - plays with his heart on his sleeve, never shirks a challenge, a rock at the back. Always gives 100%
Steve Shaw - 8 - struggled to impose himself first half, much much better second half, big player, some great challenges, unlucky to be subbed - love his commitment
Ronnie Fortune - 10 - came into his own in extra time, great at running with the ball, rarely wasted a pass, very creative
Mickey Burch - 10 - BIG performance from the midfielder, struggled to impose himself in the first half but was colossal in the second half and extra time - his attitude and will to win is infectious amongst the rest of the lads
Mark Wyer - 9 - struggled to get in the game first half despit plenty of effort, got involved more after the break, showed greart energy and broke up play well.
Leigh Porter - 7 - didn't receive the ball enough first half and found chances few and far between, loved his commitment on the sidelines when substituted
Ryan Smith - 6 - a below par performance from the skipper and he knew it. He can and will play much better than this, has a lot to prove in the final and I'm sure he will.
Ian Adu - 10 - Super sub, scored one and created the winner, a handful all game with has power and strength. Not sure on the blue drink or the boots but definitely changed the game
Darren Munnelly - 8 - great energy from the wide man, scored the winner. Linked up play very well

Please see match report below from Russell:
After coming back twice from a goal down they have beaten the current holders Wisbech St Mary in a pulsating semi – final on penalties. This was also St Mary’s first defeat of the season in any competition.
The day did not begin well with regular goal keeper Andy Fowler unable to get to the ground in time for kick off it meant a first start of the season for Real’s former manager Neil Fitzjohn. St Mary’s took the lead after 15 minutes when Whittlesey failed to clear a deep cross and their striker headed home for 1-0. Whilst Real battled hard it was St Mary’s that had the better possession and were well in control by half time.
Manager Dave Fitzjohn’s half-time team talk seemed to do the trick as they came out and took the game to their opponents with a number of half chances being created but no clear strikes at goal.
After an hour it was time for the first substitution with Ian Adu replacing Leigh Porter (ex POSH commercial manager) up front. The strong running and battling of Ian started to worry St Mary’s and with fifteen minutes to go he rose at the back post to power home a header, 1-1 game on.
Real dominated the final fifteen minutes and captain Ryan Smith twice went close to snatching a winner but his luck was out and extra time it was.
Whittlesey continued to give a good account of themselves as the game ebbed and flowed but after 100 minutes St Mary’s swung over another cross and Neil went to collect when he appeared to be fouled and could only parry the ball to the feet of a St Mary player and he put it away 2-1.
Both sets of players began to tire and St Mary’s had the chance to wrap it up mid-way through the second half of extra-time but missed a relatively easy one on one chance. With time running out Real continued to push on looking for an equalizer and when Ronnie Fortune got clear down the right his cross was headed on by Adu for Darren Munnelly to force the ball home 2-2.
Real went close to winning it with a free kick just going wide as time ran out, penalties it was and with Coates, the winners of the other semi-final at the touchline waiting to see who their opponents would be it was time for someone to make themselves a hero.
St Mary’s took the first penalty and with Neil in the Whittlesey goal reminiscent of Bruce Grobbelar antics the player put it wide. Up step Ronnie Fortune to fire Real 1-0 up. More Grobbelar like tricks from Neil did the trick again as St Mary’s shot wide with their second penalty.
Ian Adu sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 2-0. St Mary’s then registered their first penalty 2-1. Mickey Burch drove his penalty home to make it 3-1.
Now time for hero – as St Mary’s strode up to take their 4th penalty Neil leapt to his left and superbly pushed the ball away – let the celebrations begin.
Final day is April 11th at March Town Untied’s ground against near neighbours Coates.

Guys gotta say that was an awesome feeling yesterday and to be playing against our friends and rivals in the final now will only make the day a much better ocassion.
Having lost so many players this season and to be probably playing better than last is a total mark of respect to all of you.
well done and Dave i think this game at least deserves a match report or a player rating thingie you do!!!
My MOM for the day purley because of how he lead the team and kept us all going is Burchy, i no Deaono had a great game as did Adu but Micky just kept going and going and going and made sure we never ever let our heads drop!!
